I had this idea that my Martha Stewart glitter would be amazing inside bubbles. Turns out, it’s too heavy, or sharp, or something and it didn’t work. So I think I’m going to have to look for pre-glittered bubble liquid, this exists right?
When I found out that bokeh was created when the bubbles popped, the idea of glitter was suddenly less interesting. =P
A friend of mine suggested the other day, that my Mother and I should do a Crazy Cat Ladies self-portrait photo shoot. This was after my Mom took a photo of me as the Crazy Chicken Lady-we tried to recreate my shot with my daughter and a chicken. Needless to say, my daughter is a much better model, and it’s much easier being behind the camera! So anyhow, dealing with poor lighting indoors, unruly cats bribed with treats and catnip, and then almost comatose cats (after they broke into the bag of catnip we forgot to put away), we managed a couple shots as Crazy Cat Ladies. =)
My Mother, the Crazy Cat Lady.
Me as the Crazy Cat Lady
The Chicken Lady…recreated. My Mother bought me this new Victorian outfit for our upcoming zombie walk. I wanted to showcase it somehow, why not with a chicken?
I love our backyard chickens. Probably more than is normal, since apparently some people actually end up eating their chickens after they stop laying. I don’t think I’ll be one of those-nei, I *won’t* be one of those. They can carry on, living a lovely life, and not lay eggs. That’s fine by me. They’re such beautiful creatures!
I had this idea, this “vision” of how lovely a chicken would look surrounded by falling down, almost like snow. (Although if I wait a few months, I don’t need the down…) Turns out, chickens actually do not seem to like down at all. So the “vision” wasn’t quite realized, but that was ok.
There’s something about their fluffy butts that is just so cute. We got six hens when they were just tiny chicks. The little town we moved to decided that on March 26th of this year, they were going to ban livestock, poultry, and other ‘farm’ animals from city limits. That was so ridiculous! Here we moved from Portland, Oregon, where you’re allowed chickens in the city, and this rural Pennsylvania town was going to outlaw them? There was a side note, that if you owned your animals prior to March 26th, you’d be able to keep them until they died. That’s when my Mother and I went on a chicken search! We managed to get the chickens the day of the law… Turns out, there’s a lady in town who has alpacas and that’s her livelihood, so she somehow managed to get the city council to not vote on the ban. Yay!
My “reflection” photo of Anna made it into the Top 5 over at Fro Knows Photo! Always exciting to have a picture chosen for the Top 5. This weekend’s theme is “down”. I have lots of ideas but none I’m totally in love with yet. Thankfully you have until Tuesday to take photos for the theme! =)
I usually have a few pieces of paper in front of me where I randomly scribble out ideas for both paintings and photographs. One of my ideas was Anna in front of one of our old armoires, holding a doll, with the reflection being a ‘darker’ version of Anna reaching out for the doll. Due to lighting situations in the house, I changed it to a tall mirror in the forest. My mother kept asking when I was going to do that particular photo, and I kept putting it off. Well this weekend’s theme being “reflections”, my mom turned to threats if I didn’t take the shot… haha =) So we went out this morning and got it done. It’s not as dark as maybe I’d wanted to go initially, but I’m ok with that. The only problem is, I can’t decide if I like the black and white version, or the colored.
I took a little ‘behind the scenes’ of Anna in character. She’s always so willing to participate in photographs!
So every weekend I take pictures for Fro Knows Photo’s Weekend theme- that’s what a lot of my photos are for. This weekend’s theme is “Reflections” and aside from all the obvious types of shots with water, mirrors, shadows, et al, I started drawing out ideas and kept coming back to the thought that pictures are just reflections in a camera. It just so happens my Mother bought me an old Brownie Six 20 as an early birthday present and I wanted to photograph it. (I want to take photos *with* it too =P) So I told the kids to pick a camera from my three and pose for me. Tiarnan is wearing an old Velvet suit I’ve hauled around for years, but never worn. I loved it because of the awkward length on him, since they’re actually cropped pants on me.
Anna looks so serious in this picture, and it’s not because she was unhappy with posing, it was because a fly kept landing on her leg!
I hope you all have a safe and happy 4th! Don’t forget to make sure your pets are safe and not stressed out due to fireworks.
